Good reporting isn't just useful, it may also be required. You likely will be asked to provide input for the biennial America COMPETES Act Report prepared by the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP). Your agency may also have an internal reporting requirement. Your reporting will be easier if you update the Challenge.gov database with your results data, which will help you keep your project details and outcomes all in one place.

In the "Prepare to Announce" step, you added your challenge and related information to Challenge.gov. Before the conclusion of the challenge process, it's helpful to establish who will be responsible for updating new information on progress or post-process outcomes. Make sure the information in the Challenge.gov database contains the point of contact for the future of your challenge.

Also, as you are completing your COMPETES report it is a best practice to also update the Challenge.gov database since to supplement your original information with outcomes data. Adding your data to the Challenge.gov database is important for broader analysis of the use of prizes across the government. HHS has adopted an agency-wide pre- and post-challenge reporting process that uses an online survey tool to identify and describe things like:

  • How and to whom is it distributed?
  • How is it used and analyzed?
