About the Challenge
What is the DC3 Challenge?
The DC3 Digital Forensics Challenge is an public, online, and international Challenge held annually by the Department of Defense (DoD) Cyber Crime Center (DC3). The DC3 Challenge is a call to the digital forensics community to pioneer new investigative tools, techniques, and methodologies. It encourages innovation from a broad range of individuals, teams, and institutions to provide technical solutions for computer forensic examiners in the lab as well as in the field.
Starting in 2009, the DC3 Challenge began forming new sponsorships and partnerships with the Digital Forensics community to expand its message with SANS and IMPACT to the academic and international communities. This message was recognized in the July 2009 launch of the U.S. Cyber Challenge by becoming one of the three opening Challenges to encourage expansion of the federal cyber security workforce. EC-Council, John Hopkins Carey Business School, CyberWatch and recently the Cyber Security Challenge UK have joined as sponsors for the 2010 DC3 Challenge to increase the message to the academic, government, and international communities. These sponsorships have continuted for the 2011 DC3 Challenge.
